SAND CASTING
firstly, display the pattern (model) in the drag box
fill the drag box with sand
using a ramming tool to make the sand firm, and level off the sand by a trowel
A metal casting box contains two parts, which we call them the cope box and the drag box.
flip the drag box, enabling the pattern on the top.
at this stage, display the cope box onto the drag box.
Also apply the parting powder (baby powder) onto the sand and the pattern. ( for realising the pattern from the sand and prevent lateral two layers of sand from sticking.
place a runner (a hollow tube) as the sprue,and another channel as the riser on the opposite part.
Ram the sand down again with the ramming tool .
remove the sprue and the riser.
take out the pattern from sand, cut gates
at this stage, it could look like this .
in the case of this illustration, it is no must to have a riser.
create vent holes to enable air and smoke out of sand.
place a sand core depends on the project.
place the cope and the drag together again.
Then pour the molten metal.
